How to Use This Calculator
1
Measure Floor Area
Measure the length and width of each room in feet. For irregular shapes, break into rectangular sections and measure each separately.
2
Calculate Square Footage
Multiply length × width for each area. Add all sections together for total square footage. Include closets and nooks that need flooring.
3
Add Waste Factor
Add 10% for straight layouts or 15-20% for diagonal patterns and complex rooms. This accounts for cuts, mistakes, and future repairs. Enter this adjusted total.
4
Convert to Boxes or Units
Check how much coverage each box or unit of flooring provides (usually listed on packaging). Divide your total square footage by coverage per box, rounding up to whole boxes.
