How to Use This Calculator
1
Measure Wall Length and Height
Measure the total length of the wall in feet. Note the height from floor to ceiling. Standard interior walls are 8 feet, but verify your actual ceiling height.
2
Choose Stud Spacing
Select 16" or 24" on-center spacing. Use 16" for most applications and load-bearing walls. 24" works for simple interior non-load bearing walls. Check local building codes.
3
Enter Wall Details
Input wall length, height, stud spacing, and stud size (2×4 or 2×6). Note any door or window openings. The calculator determines stud count and plate lengths.
4
Calculate Total Materials
Review stud count (including extras for corners and openings), bottom plate length, and double top plate length (2× wall length). Add 10% waste. Don't forget headers, blocking, and fasteners.
